Woe Unto Them

Ezekiel 33:7-9: So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. 8 When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. 9 Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul.

If we have a concern for the souls of men, the three words woe unto them should deeply trouble us. They should trouble us enough that we attempt to warn those who need to be warned. Almost everywhere those three words appear in the Bible they direct us to individuals that need to be warned and prayed for. The passages need no comments from me. We must first be certain that the Lord is not saying woe unto them about me and about you, that we are not the ones who need to be warned.

Isaiah 5:21: Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

Isaiah 3:9: The shew of their countenance doth witness against them; and they declare their sin as Sodom, they hide it not. Woe unto their soul! for they have rewarded evil unto themselves.

Isaiah 10:1: Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;

Isaiah 29:15: Woe unto them that seek deep to hide their counsel from the LORD, and their works are in the dark, and they say, Who seeth us? and who knoweth us?

Hosea 7:13: Woe unto them! for they have fled from me: destruction unto them! because they have transgressed against me: though I have redeemed them, yet they have spoken lies against me.

Matthew 23:13: But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.

Luke 11:52: Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered.

Jude 1:11: Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.
